about
a film by scott lawson
Dark Decisions was funded by Screen Tasmania and produced by Zoot Film Tasmania and Talking Eye Films.

Principal photography began on April 17th 2005 and wrapped up on April 22th 2005.

Dark Decisions was mostly shot in Tasmania, Australia with locations including Hobart International Airport and Midway Point. Some minor material was also shot in Melbourne.

Due to the low budget nature of the film, and the intensity required from the script, many innovative shooting techniques were used in the making of this film. Dark Decisions was mostly shot using a Panasonic DVX-100A MiniDV camera with 35mm lenses, with some additional material shot using a time-lapse digital SLR and 16mm hand-cranked camera.

The film was edited on Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 using the Digital Film Tools 55mm filter set.

Dark Decisions premiered at the Peacock Theatre in Salamanca, Hobart on July 3rd 2005. Dark Decisions was written, directed, edited and co-produced by the Tasmanian filmmaker Scott Lawson.

The film was written in early 2003 and was based on a feature script idea of Scott Lawson's. The original screenplay was a 26 minute short drama. With the assistance of Screen Tasmania and Ranald Allan, the film was edited to become a 15 minute drama.

In late 2004 funding of $70 000 was obtained from Screen Tasmania to produce the film.

The film is Scott Lawson's first funded piece, having previously completed the improvised feature Life Goes On [2002] and the short feature Forced Impression [2003]. Scott currently has several future projects in development.
